Statoil Masters Tennis – McEnroe Returns To Defend London Title

John McEnroe has confirmed that he will return to the Royal Albert Hall in December to defend his title at the Statoil Masters Tennis, an event owned by IMG, the global sports, fashion and media company.

McEnroe, who won the inaugural tournament in 1997, joins fellow Wimbledon champions Goran Ivanisevic and Pat Cash in an all-star field of players. The line-up also includes Britain’s Tim Henman, the 2003 Wimbledon finalist, Mark Philippoussis, and the ever-popular French trio, Henri Leconte, Mansour Bahrami and Fabrice Santoro.

An eight-time Grand Slam champion and a former World No.1, McEnroe is already looking forward to returning to his favourite venue on the ATP Champions Tour.

“The Royal Albert Hall is an incredible arena for tennis,” said McEnroe. “I really enjoy playing in London, in front of so many enthusiastic and knowledgeable tennis fans, where the competition is very strong with so many top players playing in the tournament. I look forward to giving my very best to win a sixth title.”

Training every day, McEnroe believes that in some ways he is fitter now, aged 53, than he was in his prime. The American underlined that assertion by winning the Stockholm title on the ATP Champions Tour earlier this year.

Tickets for the Statoil Masters Tennis can now be purchased by calling the box office: +44 (0) 20 7070 4404, or by visiting the tournament’s official website: http://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/statoil-masters-tennis/default.aspx

Statoil became the title sponsor of the tournament last week for at least the next three years. The international energy company operates in 36 countries around the world.

The Statoil Masters Tennis is part of the ATP Champions Tour – a circuit of former World Number One tennis players, Grand Slam singles finalists and Davis Cup winners.
