Martin Ends Henman’s Hopes To Reach The Final

Added on: December 4, 2010

Todd Martin won the battle of the debutants at the Masters Tennis on Saturday by defeating Britain’s Tim Henman 7-6(1), 6-3 to book his place in Sunday’s final.

The American will now face either 2009 Champion Pat Rafter or Goran Ivanisevic, as they compete in a rematch of their famous 2001 Wimbledon final later today.

“Things really clicked for me in the Tie-Break,” said the 40-year-old Martin afterwards. “I think it’s a matter of getting used to your surroundings, but being in the semifinals, on a court like this, in front of all these people, it inspires an old man to do something!”.

The two-time Grand Slam finalist thrived against the home favourite, with an exceptional display of aggressive tennis at the Royal Albert Hall.
